We absolutely love this California beach trail. We have rented bikes here many times on vacation, and loved it so much that we thought it would be fun to come down here for just a quick 4 day weekend and do nothing but enjoy the trails with full day bike rentals. We managed to cover the entire path while enjoying plenty of stops at some great restaurants and pubs along the way.  Typically many of the bike rental locations close around sunset. If you are looking for the chance to use a bike all day beyond sunset, consider staying at a hotel that offers bike rentals. The Hilton in Marina Del Rey where we stayed offered bike rentals that can be accessed first thing in the morning and brought back at the end of the day if you want to continue your excursion beyond sunset. Consider bringing your own inexpensive led lights which can be attached to the bike or a baseball cap for ease of travel in the dark…
