A boarding group is required and can only be accessed by the Disneyland App once you have entered the park, boarding zones are distributed for the entire day, usually in less than an hour of park opening.  If you want to enjoy this ride you must arrive at the park early before the park opens and get in line to enter the park, once your ticket has been scanned at the turnstile, you can log into the Disneyland App where you can join a boarding group that will give you a time slot to board the ride.  Even Chewbacca had to wait in line for this ride, currently the most popular attraction in the park.  I got stuck in line next to this Wookie, an experience definitely worth dropping by for.
